Thirteen Reasons Why Series Raises Concerns: How to Talk To Your Teen
The recent release of the Netflex series Thirteen Reasons Why has gained attention and is raising concerns. Based on the book that was released 10 years ago, the series follows a group of high school students as they follow the story that was left behind for them by their classmate who died by suicide.
Area schools have been making parents aware of the recent release of the series in an effort to encourage parents to open up conversations with their teens about this important topic. The series includes many topics such as social media, bullying, sexuality, relationships, family life, school climate, depressioin, suicide, rape, cliques, parties, drugs, alcohol and more. If you have a teen who has watched the series or read the book, having a conversation about these difficult topics is important to help them process in an appropriate way what they’ve seen or read.
