The Director of Professional Development provides strategic planning, direction, and leadership to ensure successful staff onboarding, offers ongoing relevant and meaningful training and professional development with the end result being better outcomes for clients, as well as increased job satisfaction for CLM staff. This is a full-time, 40 hour per week position starting in January 2025.
Major Functional Areas and Description of Duties
- Conducts cross-functional and comprehensive training needs analysis to understand the skills and knowledge deficits within the agency;
- Designs custom curriculum, course plans, and programs, including instructor and end-user training materials (e.g., facilitator and participant materials, e-learning, job aides, etc.) that emphasize problem/case-based learning and interactive educational methodologies;
- Applies training theories and principles, including applied behavioral science, adult learning theory, and/or established industry models of evaluation;
- Clearly and concisely conveys training content in a manner that engages learners and improves learning retention rates in multiple learning modes;
- Develops engaging interactions using adult learning and instructional design (ADDIE, SAAM) best practices;
- Ensures learning and performance objectives are appropriate to the audience and that the training materials meet learning and performance objectives;
- Develops recommendations for instructional and performance strategies based on training needs and performance appraisals;
- Takes ownership of and periodically reviews (library) content to ensure that it maintains relevance, accuracy, and quality content (making sure the library is current and accurate) and initiates corrective actions as needed;
- Stays current with the latest industry tools and trends in instructional design;
- Works collaboratively with the V. P. of Quality & Compliance, and collaborates with senior leaders, clinical directors, and community partners to ensure that training is efficient and effective by developing methods to meet desired learning outcomes and are in compliance with agency policies, procedures, and service delivery expectations;
- Creates initial and ongoing training schedules for all staff at the agency;
- Designs and apply assessment tools to measure training effectiveness;
- Tracks and reports on training outcomes by surveying the effectiveness of trainings offered;
- Forms and maintains strategic alliances with internal content experts and external trainers for specialty learning opportunities;
- Serves on appropriate committees, both internally and externally, as determined by supervisor;
- Functions professionally and in a manner that protects the integrity, confidentiality, and rights of all clients and staff and adheres to the Center’s Code of Ethics;
- Promotes a positive work environment and culture that fosters cooperation, teamwork, professional growth, and development to benefit CLM staff, clients, families, and community partners;
- Executes all required functions, services, and documentation by agency policies, federal standards, and state statutes;
- Maintain professional memberships, licenses, accreditation, certifications, etc.;
- Perform all other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Education, Qualifications and Skills
- Master’s degree in education or mental health field, or equivalent combination of education and significant relevant experience required;
- Must be a skilled, experienced and engaging presenter/instructor, both in person and via virtual options;
- Must possess the ability to understand the evolving organizational development needs of the agency, create short and long-range training plans and implement those plans effectively;
- Prior experience developing and providing learning and training experiences required;
- Prior experience in user interface design software and developing storyboards, preferred;
- Prior experience in two or more mid-level leadership roles preferred;
- Prior experience working in a clinical setting with a diverse client population is preferred;
- Possesses a systematic approach to work that demonstrates robust project management skills and a solid focus on quality assurance;
- Proficient computer skills and knowledge of all Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, TEAMS, Captivate, Articulate Storyboards, etc.);
- Advanced documentation skills and familiarity with data reports/spreadsheets;
- Ability and desire to work as part of a team while also able to be self-directed and motivated with minimal supervision;
- Ability to demonstrate strong leadership skills that guide the implementation and sustainability of a supportive learning environment, development of workforce, and staff retention;
- Demonstrate effective communication, organization, problem-solving, and multi-tasking skills to manage competing projects across the agency while adhering to deadlines;
- Ability to acquire and execute new skills according to evolving agency needs.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
This is a hybrid position where the work will be performed in various locations, including the office, community, and remotely. Manual dexterity is needed to use computers and standard office equipment. The ability to sit for extended periods is required. Reliable phone and internet access are required. Must have reliable transportation to be able to travel to offsite meetings as needed.
