Derry, NH— The Center for Life Management (CLM) was awarded a $35,500 grant from the Alexander Eastman Foundation (AEF) in support of the development of a new program called Healthy Aging for Older People with Mental Illness. This program will focus on providing help to people with severe and persistent mental illness by removing barriers that prevent treatment or recovery.
According to Michele Harlan, MA, Clinical Director of Adult Services at CLM, “Mental illness is not a normal outcome of aging. As we know, aging brings about unique stresses due to vulnerability to illness, injuries, and mental health concerns. As a state, here in NH we know we have a rapidly growing senior population and with that will come an increasing need for services. At CLM, we are working to enhance our capacity to meet the needs of our seniors with integrated mental health and primary medical care services that address their whole-person wellness.”
In presenting the grant award, Dr. John Moody, Chairman Alexander Eastman Foundation noted, “The Alexander Eastman Foundation is proud to support the development of this program at the Center for Life Management. The Foundation is dedicated to promoting health and well-being for residents of the greater Derry, NH, area.”
